This position is focused on the clinical side of our practice, providing comprehensive care and support to our patients. You will work closely with our neurosurgeon and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional outpatient services.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Day Management: Play a key role in the smooth operation of clinic days, obtaining and medical records and imaging studies, assisting physicians with patient flow and ensuring all necessary information and equipment are available.
- Comprehensive Patient Histories: Obtain, record, and maintain detailed and accurate patient medical histories, including chief complaints, history of present illness, past medical/surgical history, family history, social history, medication reconciliation, and allergies.
- Follow-Up Care & Histories: Conduct thorough follow-up appointments for post-operative patients and patients undergoing non-operative treatment. This includes assessing progress, managing ongoing conditions, performing follow-up histories, and adjusting care plans under physician supervision.
- Patient Communication & Triage: Professionally handle patient-related questions, phone calls, and electronic messages. Provide information, address concerns, and triage urgent matters to the appropriate physician or staff member.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on their conditions, pre-operative and post-operative care instructions (for clinic-based interactions), treatment plans, medication management, and preventative care.
- Documentation: Ensure timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all patient encounters, communications, and orders in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
- Orders & Referrals: As directed by the supervising physician, order appropriate diagnostic tests and make referrals to other specialists or services.
- Medication Management: Handle prescription requests and refills according to practice protocols and under physician supervision.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to ensure a coordinated and high-quality patient experience.
- Adhere to all practice protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current and valid California PA license, in good standing.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in a clinical setting is highly preferred. Experience in a surgical specialty clinic (e.g., neurosurgery, orthopedics) is a plus.
- Strong skills in taking comprehensive patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical information clearly to patients.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (training available as needed).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or strong interest in neurosciences or a related field from a clinical perspective.
- Experience with patient education, and communicating pre- and post-op instructions.
- Bilingual (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
