Locum Inpatient Cardiology Physician Assistant – San Francisco, CA

Position Overview
Winston Locums is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for a 23-week inpatient cardiology assignment at an acute care hospital in San Francisco, California.
The Physician Assistant will provide care to adult general cardiology patients who may also have complex concurrent medical conditions, including heart failure, diabetes, renal failure and other inpatient medical needs.
This is a full-time day-shift position consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week. Weekend and holiday availability is required.
Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Shift time: 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Day shifts only
- No call responsibilities
- Block scheduling is not available
Position Responsibilities
The attending physician rotates weekly and rounds with the APP team each morning. After morning rounds, the Physician Assistant will independently coordinate the patient’s care throughout the day.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing approximately six to seven adult patients per shift
- Providing inpatient care to general cardiology and hospital medicine patients
- Completing daily progress notes
- Obtaining comprehensive patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing and updating treatment plans
- Coordinating consultations
- Preparing discharge summaries
- Managing complex patient discharges
- Collaborating with nursing, social work, case management, physical therapy and pharmacy
- Participating in afternoon multidisciplinary rounds
- Managing new admissions approximately every other day
- Coordinating care for patients with multiple concurrent medical conditions
- Providing coverage for the post-cardiac procedure service when needed
Patient Population
- Adult patients
- Inpatient, non-ICU setting
- General cardiology patients with concurrent medical conditions
- Conditions may include heart failure, diabetes, renal failure and other hospital medicine diagnoses
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current NCCPA certification
- Minimum of one year of recent inpatient cardiology experience
- Minimum of one year managing inpatient medicine patients
- Strong history-taking and physical examination skills
- Proficiency in writing progress notes and discharge summaries
- Experience coordinating complex inpatient discharges
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- California Physician Assistant license or willingness to obtain one
Candidates with related experience in cardiac critical care, post-cardiac procedure care, cardiac catheterization or a similar cardiac specialty may also be considered.
