Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner
San Diego Imaging is looking to add an additional Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to our busy Interventional Radiology practice. You will work closely with fellowship-trained interventional and diagnostic radiologists in a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
We are a premier, independent radiology practice in San Diego providing coverage at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Sharp Coronado, and the James S. Brown Pavilion. This position offers a diverse combination of inpatient and outpatient interventional radiology, providing an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys procedural medicine, clinical decision-making, and comprehensive patient care.
Position Responsibilities
The PA or NP will participate in the full spectrum of IR patient care, including pre-procedure evaluation, procedural assistance, post-procedure management, and outpatient follow-up.
Inpatient Interventional Radiology responsibilities include:
- Evaluate inpatient consultations and determine appropriateness for IR procedures in collaboration with the interventional radiologist
- Perform histories and physical examinations and obtain informed consent
- Evaluate patients before and after procedures
- Assist with a broad range of image-guided procedures
- Provide post-procedure management and monitor for complications
- Perform appropriate bedside procedures within scope of practice and hospital privileges
- Manage drains, lines, catheters, and other IR-related devices as appropriate
- Coordinate care with hospitalists, surgeons, intensivists, emergency physicians, and other referring services
- Provide patient and family education regarding procedures and follow-up care
Outpatient Interventional Radiology responsibilities include:
- Evaluate new and established IR patients in the outpatient setting
- Review imaging, laboratory studies, medical history, and prior procedures
- Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the interventional radiologist
- Counsel patients regarding minimally invasive treatment options, risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Perform pre-procedure assessments and obtain consent
- Provide post-procedure evaluations and follow-up
- Manage outpatient drains, catheters, wounds, and other IR-related issues
- Communicate with referring physicians and coordinate ongoing patient care
- Participate in clinic and procedural workflows
Procedures & Clinical Exposure
Depending on experience, training, and credentialing, the PA or NP will be able to perform to a variety of interventional radiology procedures, including:
- Image-guided biopsies
- Abscess and fluid drainage
- Vascular access procedures
- Drain and catheter placement and management
- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Venous interventions
- Other image-guided procedures performed by the practice
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Current California PA or NP license, BLS, and DEA
- National certification as a PA or NP
- Comfort working in a procedural environment
- Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, technologists, and hospital staff
- Willing to travel to multiple locations
Preferred:
- Strongly prefer 5+ years of experience
- PA with California Fluoro license or willing to obtain within 6 months
- Previous experience in Interventional Radiology or other acute care setting such as, emergency medicine, surgery, critical care, or vascular surgery
- Experience with inpatient consultation and post-procedure management
New graduates may be considered depending on clinical background, procedural experience, and overall qualifications.

Pay: $140,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year
