Full Job Description

Nurse Practitioner, Inpatient Integrative Medicine Consult Service (Founding Role)

Los Angeles | Full time, Monday through Friday | Start date: April 2027

A new inpatient integrative medicine consult service is launching at a large Los Angeles hospital, and we are hiring the nurse practitioner who will help build it. The starting team is one physician, one nurse practitioner, and one licensed acupuncturist.

We will see hospitalized patients with chronic and functional pain syndromes, those who stay longer and return more often because standard approaches have not worked for them. Our tools are acupuncture, mind-body medicine, trigger point injections, and opioid-sparing regimens. There is no cost to the patient. We are measuring readmissions, opioid use, and length of stay, and we intend to publish.

This is a founding clinical role. You will carry the daily consult work alongside the physician and acupuncturist, and you will shape how the service works.

What you’ll do

  • Inpatient consults across medicine, surgery, oncology, orthopedics, and other services
  • Trigger point injections
  • Non-opioid and opioid-sparing pain management, including structured tapers
  • Coordinate with primary teams, pharmacy, PT/OT, and discharge planning
  • Document in Epic and capture structured outcomes data in a research registry
  • Help build the protocols, workflows, and metrics

Requirements

  • Active California RN and NP licensure, furnishing number, and DEA (or eligible to obtain before start)
  • National certification (AANP or ANCC)
  • Eligibility for inpatient privileges at the hospital. Acute care population focus is strongly preferred and may be required by the medical staff office
  • Two or more years of inpatient experience: hospital medicine, palliative care, pain, or oncology
  • Current BLS
  • Comfort with medically complex patients and a fast-moving consult service

Preferred

  • Clinical interest in functional pain syndromes including fibromyalgia and chronic pain
  • Comfort with trauma-informed care
  • Musculoskeletal exam skills, or experience in a rehabilitation, sports medicine, or pain setting
  • Interest in clinical outcomes research
  • Training in integrative or functional medicine, ideally East Asian medicine
  • Training in mind-body practices
  • Prior consult service experience

What we offer

  • Founding role on a new hospital service
  • Opportunity for authorship on published outcomes research
  • CME allowance
  • 20 days PTO, scheduled around service coverage
  • Health, dental, vision, retirement, malpractice
  • Potential teaching with residents and fellows

Compensation

Base salary of $185,000 to $200,000 depending on experience, plus performance incentive of up to $20,000. Total annual compensation of $205,000 to $220,000.

About the employer

This role is with Andrew Shubov, M.D., A Professional Corporation, which operates the service under contract with the hospital. You would be credentialed to the hospital medical staff and work in its facilities, but employed by the practice. We aim to fill this role by September so that credentialing can begin in October.
