DutiesAssist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all tools and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols. Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and traditional radiography tools, while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Prepare treatment rooms for patient appointments by organizing instruments, ensuring aseptic techniques are followed, and maintaining a clean environment in line with infection control standards. Provide chairside assistance by managing dental supplies, handing instruments to the dentist efficiently during procedures, and monitoring patient vital signs to ensure comfort and safety throughout treatments. Manage medical documentation and records using EMR systems like Dentrix or Epic, accurately recording treatment details, medical history, and billing information in compliance with medical coding standards. Support administrative tasks such as greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and maintaining organized medical records. Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions to promote ongoing dental health outside the clinic.
SkillsProficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Epic is essential for managing patient information efficiently. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology enables clear communication with team members and patients alike. Experience with dental imaging techniques including X-ray procedures and 3D scanning enhances diagnostic accuracy. Familiarity with infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and sterilization processes ensures a safe environment for patients and staff. Ability to perform chairside assisting seamlessly in four-handed dentistry setups improves workflow efficiency during procedures. Understanding of HIPAA regulations guarantees confidentiality of all patient medical records and documentation. Experience working in pediatric dentistry or general dentistry practices is highly desirable for providing tailored patient care across age groups.
