Responsibilities
Responsible for performing patient evaluations, reviewing pretreatment teaching, recommending therapeutic intervention, counseling patients and families and collaborating with appropriate physicians to provide other appropriate direct care interventions within the scope of practice for physician’s assistants. Primary point of contact and assumes responsibilities for managing the care for patients.
- Gathers complete history of patients and perform complete physical examinations or focused physical examinations for specific complaints.
- Completes discharge summaries and maintains documentation on patient visits.
- Conducts daily patient rounds and sees patients in outpatient clinic, as needed.
- Recognizes and evaluates situations which require immediate attention of supervising physician and which require treatment procedures essential for life of patients; responds in appropriate manner.
- Coordinates with supervising physician regarding patients seen such as sees patients in physician’s office and hospital, instructs and counsels patients on health and disease issues based on assessment data and assists in cardiothoracic surgery when needed.
- Prescribes and dispenses drugs and medical devices in accordance with regulations established by the Arizona Joint Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine and Surgery.
- Monitors effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and makes appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Secures patient health illness and psychological history by ordering, performing and interpreting appropriate laboratory, radiographic and other diagnostic tests.
- Discriminates between abnormal and normal findings based on history and physical and diagnostic test results, and initiates consultation, referral, or treatment as appropriate.
- Efficiently and effectively assists in OR as needed under direction of surgeon.
- Rotates call for after hour/weekend patient needs.

Qualifications
MINIMUM
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 3 years clinical experience in related area or specialty field
Degree as a Physician Assistant
Arizona DEA
Pay Range $51.66 – $86.79/hour
