JOB DESCRIPTION

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT- INTERVENTIONAL SPINE

JOB TITLE: PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: Supervising Physician

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: The Physician Assistant (PA) will work with our Interventional Spine Physician to evaluate & develop treatment plans for patients suffering from acute and/or chronic spine and joint pain and dysfunction. Our PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examines patients, obtains medical histories, and assesses health status.
  • Assesses patient health status, including state of wellness and compliance with care plans.
  • Provides chronic patient care, including taking histories, performing physical examinations, monitoring therapies, and prescribing medications.
  • Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
  • Evaluate and assess patients independently under physician supervision and order interventional procedures as indicated.
  • Documents patient information and care provided in the patient record.
  • Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care.
  • Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Other duties and assignments as necessary.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medication, delivering physical care following treatment plan.
  • Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements.
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic and emotional patient data.
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans.
  • Proficient in EMR (Centricity) to document notes, orders, prescriptions, etc.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by appropriate attire, attendance, attitude, and behavior within the clinical setting.
  • Contribute to the team effort by supporting all team members and maintaining an open and positive attitude.
  • Excellent oral, written & telephone communication, along with tact, diplomacy, and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Prioritizes work activities and accepts multiple job duties.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with physicians, administration, and other staff members.
  • Maintains privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient, client, staff, and organizational data.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged sitting, standing, some bending, stooping, stretching and/or walking.
  • Normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and records.
  • Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and anxious patients.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a medical office and exam room settings.
  • Procedure room settings.
  • Frequent contact with a variety of people/patients.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of an accredited physician assistant (PA) program.
  • A valid unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Arizona, with no pending disciplinary actions or restrictions is required.
  • DEA and CPR (BLS and ACLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a physician assistant in a clinic or hospital.
