Job Details: The Infectious Disease department is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to provide medical care and treatment within established scope of nursing practice as assigned by and under the direction of collaborating physician. The APP will contribute to multiple ongoing research projects focused on the epidemiology, diagnosis, management, and/or prevention of Substance use and infectious diseases. The UAB STD Program has a large presence in the STD clinical trial community. The purpose of the program is to conduct research that advances the evaluation and management of STIs and provides students, community members, and researchers with additional access to sexual health research opportunities.
Preferred Skills: Active DEA and qualified to prescribe buprenorphine. Comprehensive physical examinations and assessments: interpretation, and evaluation of patient medical records and data; serving as liaison between patient and health care provider; clinical training. Experience with infectious diseases clinical care or research is not required but is beneficial.

Master’s degree in nursing with a Family NP, Adult Primary NP certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
