Job SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals. Your responsibilities will include assisting with examinations, performing laboratory tests, bathing, taking care of boarding animals and ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care and a solid understanding of veterinary practices. Must be willing to work holidays and weekends. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures.
- Perform animal restraint techniques to ensure the safety of both staff and animals.
- Prepare and maintain laboratory samples for testing.
- Utilize aseptic techniques during surgical procedures.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each patient.
- Provide basic grooming services to enhance animal hygiene.
- Educate pet owners on proper care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Monitor animals post-surgery or during critical care situations.
- Feeding and caring for animals that are boarding and/or hospitalized.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of animal anatomy and veterinary terminology is essential.
- Experience with laboratory procedures and equipment is preferred.
- Familiarity with animal catheterization techniques is a plus.
- Previous experience in veterinary critical care or as a veterinary technician is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A commitment to providing compassionate care to all animals.
