Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA-C) G2S Corporation

Location: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Portsmouth, VA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday (Day Shift)

Corporation is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA-C) to provide comprehensive orthopedic care at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, one of the Department of Defense’s premier military treatment facilities. Position Summary:

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant provides a full range of musculoskeletal evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, perioperative support, and patient management services under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons. The PA will support both outpatient and inpatient orthopedic services while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care, including:
  • Evaluation and treatment of sprains, strains, contusions, back/neck pain, sports injuries, rheumatic diseases, and chronic pain.
  • Management of neuromuscular and peripheral nervous system disorders.
  • Injury rehabilitation and functional capacity assessments.
  • Assist in pre-, intra-, and post-operative orthopedic procedures, such as:
  • Physical assessments, surgical prep, instrumentation setup, first/second assist during procedures.
  • Wound care, dressing changes, splint/cast changes, and suture removal.
  • Perform patient evaluations:
  • Participate in daily rounds, review diagnostic results, write progress notes, and prepare discharge summaries.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients (orders to be reviewed by a supervising physician).
  • Respond to pages/calls from the ER, clinics, and fleet regarding musculoskeletal issues.
  • Review and respond to consults via the computerized referral system.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet ALL of the following qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program

Certification

  • Current NCCPA certification (PA-C)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through:
  • American Heart Association, or
  • American Red Cross

Licensure:

  • Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia

Experience

One of the following is required:

  • Completion of an Orthopedic Physician Assistant fellowship or residency

OR

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time Orthopedic Physician Assistant experience within the past 3 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Military or federal healthcare experience
  • Surgical first assist experience
  • Experience with orthopedic trauma or sports medicine
  • Experience using MHS GENESIS or other electronic health record systems

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday
  • Typical duty hours between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM
  • Approximately 40 hours per week
  • No routine weekends
  • No routine on-call requirements
  • Federal holidays observed

(Actual schedules are assigned by the government clinical supervisor.)

Security & Credentialing Requirements:

Selected candidates must successfully complete:

  • Department of Defense credentialing
  • Background investigation (SF-86)
  • Drug screening
  • Fingerprinting
  • Occupational health screening
  • Immunization verification
  • TB screening
  • BLS verification

Credentialing typically requires approximately 60 days.
