Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine , as an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow ( Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant ) with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease team.
As an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow , you will complete advanced clinical and professional training post-licensure to gain specialized knowledge in a selected field of practice. This role contributes to increasing access to high-quality specialty care and supports UChicago Medicine’s commitment to clinical excellence and education. The ultimate goal of the fellowship is to prepare APPs for autonomous practice in the specialty setting. The fellow will provide care to a defined patient population under the guidance of experienced clinicians.
Essential Job Functions
- Direct Patient Care
- Provides comprehensive care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings under the supervision of attending physicians and advanced practice providers.
- Performs clinical evaluations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, monitors treatment response and side effects, and adjusts care plans accordingly.
- Develop treatment plans that incorporate health maintenance and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Ensures continuity of care through effective communication with team members and timely documentation in the medical record.
- Educates patients and families on treatment plans, follow-up, and home care needs.
- Demonstrates effective time management and meets established productivity expectations.
- Completes documentation and billing accurately and within required timeframes.
- Procedural Training and Skill Development
- Actively participates in hands-on procedural training.
- Develop technical proficiency and clinical judgment related to procedures commonly performed in the designated specialty.
- Prepares for and performs procedures following institutional guidelines and safety protocols.
- Demonstrates understanding of indications, contraindications, anatomy, techniques, and post-procedural care.
- Seeks feedback and incorporates coaching to improve competence and patient outcomes.
- Didactic Education:
- Participates in all structured didactic activities as assigned.
- Completes all academic assignments.
Actively participates in all mentoring assignments.
Qualifications
- Masters’ Degree conferred from accredited NP or PA school.
- National Board Certification
- Licensed in Illinois without restriction.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which is age specific/appropriate for the types of patients served.
- Basic computer knowledge /skills needed for patient care, advancing education, and research applications.
- Appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients/families, the multidisciplinary, faculty, and external contacts.
The willingness and acknowledgement that participation in the residency will take self-directed initiatives and study outside of defined work schedule to accomplish all required tasks.
