Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). The PA will provide direct patient care for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, managing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support recovery and improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, histories, and physical examinations for patients entering and participating in the OTP program
  • Diagnose and manage opioid use disorder and related medical conditions under the supervision of the Medical Director
  • Prescribe and monitor medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine and other approved medications, in accordance with federal and state regulations
  • Monitor patient progress, withdrawal symptoms, medication adherence, and treatment response
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
  • Collaborate with counselors, nurses, behavioral health providers, and case managers to coordinate patient care
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, case reviews, and program development initiatives
  • Educate patients and families on treatment options, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and recovery support services
  • Ensure compliance with DEA, SAMHSA, state, and organizational policies and regulations

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the state of practice
  • DEA registration with eligibility to prescribe controlled substances
  • X-waiver certification preferred (if applicable under current regulations)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in addiction medicine, behavioral health, primary care, or psychiatry
  • Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and opioid use disorder treatment standards preferred
  • Strong communication, documentation, and patient engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with underserved or high-risk populations
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Experience with electronic health record systems

Work Environment

  • Outpatient opioid treatment clinic setting
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on recovery and patient-centered care
  • May require early morning or weekend coverage depending on clinic operations
