Position Summary:

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), specifically Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) are licensed healthcare professionals who are qualified by formal training, experience, and certification to provide direct patient care.

Primary duties & responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Evaluates the patient by reviewing medical history and performing an appropriate physical exam in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Interprets and evaluates patient data for the purpose of determining the management and treatment of patients. Consult with the physician as appropriate.
  • Adjusts patient care plan by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans.
  • Administers or orders laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests that will assist with medical management; explain the necessity, preparation, and nature and anticipates effects of treatments and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Performs rounds independently or with attending physicians.
  • Prescribes, recommends and regulates appropriate pharmacologic medicine.
  • Documents appropriately and communicates with the appropriate physician in a timely manner as required, including, but not limited to, evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, billing documentation, treatment notes, and other reports as requested.
  • Pre- and post-operative evaluation, coordination, and orders as appropriate.
  • Occasional on call required.

Qualifications:

  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies (PA)
  • Board Certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANPC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA for PA).
  • Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Tennessee.
  • Valid DEA drug license and Tennessee controlled substance (CDS) license required.
  • Urology or surgical experience preferred but not essential.

Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.
  • Current knowledge of acceptable and appropriate clinical practice, quality assurance, and patient management and care.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as an effective healthcare team member.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
  • Proficient computer software, database & typing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Maintain & adhere to HIPAA compliance/ regulations.

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
