Physician Assistant (PA) Cardiothoracic Surgery
Fountain Valley, California Locum Tenens
Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking a Physician Assistant for a cardiothoracic surgery assignment in Fountain Valley, CA. This full-time locum role involves assisting with complex cardiac procedures in a surgical environment, supporting patient care primarily within the OR and outpatient clinic.
- Location: Fountain Valley, California
- Assignment Type: Locum Tenens
- Setting: Surgical environment including operating room and ICU, with outpatient clinic components
- Coverage: June 2026 through August 2026, with potential extension
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Call required at a 1:3 ratio during weekdays, approximately 1:7 on weekends
- Call includes completing second cases from home, minimal callback volume
- Assists with CABG (60%), valve repairs/replacements, TAVR, and ECMO procedures
- Performs vein harvesting using Getinge equipment; optional endoradial procedures preferred but not required
- Responsible for chest tube removal; no vascular, thoracic, or general surgery tasks outside specified procedures
- No VADs or transplants involved
- Supports approximately 1-2 cases daily, totaling around 250 open-heart procedures annually
- California medical license with active, unrestricted status
- First assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
- Vein harvesting skills
- Ability to assist with CABG, valve procedures, TAVR, and ECMO support
- Experience with Getinge equipment and endoradial procedures
- Always working with a surgeon in the OR; independent in outpatient clinic support
- Minimal rounding, primarily assisting in the OR and outpatient setting
