Join our dynamic team as a DOT Medical Examiner, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and health of non-commercial and commercial drivers across the transportation industry. This energetic position involves conducting comprehensive medical examinations in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, utilizing advanced medical technology and systems to evaluate fitness for duty. Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough physical examinations of non-commercial and commercial drivers, including vital signs assessment and medical history review, ensuring compliance with DOT standards.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and electronic medical record (EMR) systems to document findings accurately and efficiently.
  • Conduct specialized assessments using medical imaging techniques when necessary to evaluate driver health status.
  • Review laboratory results, radiology reports such as CT scans, and other diagnostic evaluations to inform fitness determinations.
  • Apply clinical knowledge across various specialties including cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, endocrinology, and dermatology to assess driver health comprehensively.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations by maintaining strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and specialists for complex cases involving critical care experience or neurocritical care needs.
  • Provide clear guidance on fitness determinations, including issuing certifications or restrictions based on thorough patient assessments.
  • Stay updated on current DOT regulations, CPT coding standards, and best practices in occupational health and telehealth experience.
  • Perform non-DOT physicals (Pre-employment).
  • Minor non-emergency sick visits (in-person and telemedicine)

Skills

  • Proficiency with EHR systems, EMR systems, and Epic for documentation and data management.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology knowledge, and diagnostic radiology techniques such as interventional radiography and vascular interventional radiography.
  • Experience in multiple specialties including psychiatry, perioperative care, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, pediatric critical & intensive care, pain medicine, hospice & palliative medicine, addiction counseling, immunology, infectious disease care, and trauma medicine.
  • Skilled in performing physical examinations with attention to vital signs and airway management procedures like intubation or ventilator support when needed.
  • Familiarity with medical imaging modalities such as CT scans or nuclear medicine for diagnostic evaluation.
  • Ability to conduct patient assessments involving complex conditions like diabetes care or hyperbaric medicine.
  • Experience with hospital settings or inpatient care environments including ICU experience or Level I/II trauma center experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical coding (ICD coding), CPT coding standards for billing purposes, and infection control protocols.
  • Excellent patient service skills complemented by health coaching capabilities to promote wellness initiatives.
