Position Overview

Baylor University Medical Center is seeking a collaborative and motivated Neurosurgical Physician Assistant to join our growing neurosurgery team. This position offers a balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities with an emphasis on patient management, rounding, consults, and clinical care, while also providing opportunities to assist in the operating room.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PA or a motivated new graduate who is eager to learn in a fast-paced neurosurgical environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and thrives while managing multiple priorities across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Schedule & Practice Structure

  • Full-time day shift position
  • Monday through Friday schedule
  • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 or 4:00 PM
  • Approximately 50% inpatient / 50% outpatient responsibilities
  • Two clinic days per week
  • Additional call opportunities available at a set rate of $80/hour

  • Shared weekend call rotation: 1 in 5 weekends in-house call 7A-7P.
  • Inpatient rounding and neurosurgical consults
  • Management of hospitalized neurosurgical patients
  • Pre-operative and post-operative patient care
  • Clinic evaluation and follow-up visits (approximately 10–12 patients per clinic day)
  • Coordination of care and surgical orders for multiple neurosurgeons
  • First assist and second assist opportunities in the OR (approximately 20% operative time)
  • Collaboration with surgeons, APPs, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage complex workflows while balancing inpatient, outpatient, and procedural responsibilities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Texas Physician Assistant license or eligibility
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior neurosurgery, surgical, or inpatient experience preferred
  • New graduates with strong clinical interest in neurosurgery are encouraged to apply

Physician Assistants (PA)
