Full Job Description

Job Overview

St. Louis Foot and Ankle Institute is hiring a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join a high-volume podiatry surgery practice in St. Louis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an APP seeking hands-on experience in sports medicine, foot and ankle surgery, fracture care, and musculoskeletal conditions, while also participating in comprehensive foot care and advanced in-office treatments. You will work directly with a board-certified surgeon in both clinic and procedural settings, managing a wide variety of patient cases.

If you are looking for a role with procedures, injections, surgical exposure, laser therapy, and autonomy, this position offers strong clinical growth and long-term opportunity.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating exceptional patient care skills, critical thinking, and a passion for advancing musculoskeletal health.

Patient Care & Clinical Duties

  • Perform patient evaluations, including history and physical exams
  • Diagnose and treat foot and ankle conditions (plantar fasciitis, fractures, tendon injuries, arthritis, post-op care)
  • Provide routine and medical nail care, including nail debridement/trimming when clinically indicated
  • Manage skin and soft tissue conditions such as calluses, corns, and wound care when appropriate
  • Develop treatment plans and collaborate with the physician
  • Manage acute pain through appropriate medication administration, pain management protocols, and post-operative care plans
  • Educate patients on treatment options, recovery timelines, and prevention

Procedures, Laser Therapy & Surgical Exposure

  • Assist in surgical procedures both in the outpatient and in-office setting
  • Administer and oversee Class IV laser therapy treatments for pain, inflammation, and soft tissue healing
  • Provide post-operative care and follow-ups
  • Administer injections (such as steroid or hyaluronic acid dermal filler treatments), and aseptic technique adherence
  • Perform in-office procedures such as nail debridement

Diagnostics & Care Coordination

  • Order and interpret X-rays, MRI, ultrasound, and diagnostic studies
  • Coordinate care with physical therapy and other specialists
  • Handle prior authorizations and peer-to-peer insurance reviews

Team Collaboration & Operations

  • Support clinical staff with triage and patient flow
  • Document accurately in EMR (ModMed/EMA experience a plus)
  • Maintain efficient workflow in a fast-paced private practice
  • Utilize CPT coding and ICD-10 coding systems for accurate documentation of procedures and diagnoses

Qualifications

  • Licensed Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Missouri (or eligible)
  • Strong interest in orthopedics, podiatry, or surgical specialties
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • 1+ year experience in orthopedics, podiatry, sports medicine, or surgery
  • Experience with injections, procedures, musculoskeletal care, or laser therapy

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • CME allowance & professional development support
  • Malpractice coverage
