Teaching HospitalistCDU Attending provides comprehensive inpatient medical care while serving as a clinical educator for residents, medical students, and interdisciplinary learners within the teaching hospital environment. This role combines direct patient care with academic responsibilities, including resident supervision, bedside teaching, curriculum support, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
The physician works collaboratively with hospital leadership, faculty, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, case management, and consulting specialists to ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care and an exceptional educational experience for trainees.
The physician is expected to provide clinical coverage within the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), dedicating a minimum of 10% of expected hospital medicine shifts to CDU patient care. This independent hospital medicine work includes evaluation, management, and disposition planning for observation-status patients requiring short-term treatment, monitoring, and care coordination.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive inpatient care for adult patients admitted to the Family Medicine teaching service.
Perform history and physical examinations, daily rounding, discharge planning, and coordination of care.
Manage acute and chronic medical conditions in hospitalized patients using evidence-based practices.
Collaborate with consulting specialists and ancillary services to optimize patient outcomes.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and transitions of care planning.
Support patient throughput initiatives, including admission efficiency and discharge optimization.
Provide direct patient care in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) for approximately 10% of assigned hospital medicine shifts.
Evaluate and manage observation-status patients requiring short-stay monitoring, diagnostic workup, treatment progression, and discharge readiness assessment.
Collaborate with emergency department physicians, case management, nursing, and consulting services to facilitate efficient patient progression and timely disposition from the CDU.
Support hospital throughput and patient access initiatives through effective CDU management and observation care optimization.
Participate in call schedules, weekend coverage, and holiday rotations as assigned.Academic and Teaching Responsibilities
Supervise and teach family medicine residents, medical students, and other learners in the inpatient setting.
Provide bedside teaching, case-based learning, didactic instruction, and mentorship.
Foster a positive learning environment that supports professional development and clinical excellence.
Evaluate learner performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Participate in residency program curriculum development and academic conferences.
Support scholarly activity, quality improvement projects, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Maintain compliance with ACGME standards and institutional teaching requirements.Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities
Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development, and hospital committees as assigned.
Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
Support institutional goals related to patient experience, throughput, and quality metrics.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited college of Medicine/Osteopathy.
Experience or strong interest in graduate medical education and resident teachingPreferred Experience
Prior academic hospitalist or teaching service experience
Faculty appointment eligibility with JPS residency program
Experience with quality improvement, scholarly activity, or clinical research
Leadership experience in residency education or inpatient operationsRequired Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
