BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Function as a Physician’s Assistant and change agent incorporating the primary role of PA and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of Otolaryngology.
- Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for a defined patient population.
- Collaborate with faculty surgeons and nursing staff/nursing administration, to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
- Determine care requirements and develop programs for a specific patient population, with regard to patient condition and age and follow universal precautions.
- Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
- Perform medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.
- Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
- Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
- Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
- Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
- Participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
- Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
- Provide education to external agencies, community and other health professionals.
- Generate research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations.
- Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
- Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
- Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
- Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and UI Health Care APP knowledge.
- Participate in professional activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect, honesty and service; assure that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics; constructively manages conflict.
- Inspire and motivate others to high performance by exercising strong stewardship of University resources, setting expectations, measuring success through individual performance evaluations, and driving organizational results.
- Identify opportunities for and creates development plans that encourage employees to attend to the growth of their personal and professional capacity; engage self and staff in collective reflection of the University’s greater role in society.
The department intends to hire for one position as either an ARNP, requisition 26002654 or PA, requisition 26002655, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to the specific position for which you which to be considered or both.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from accredited PA educational program and certification by the NCCPA.
- Eligible to be licensed by the State of Iowa to perform as a Physician Assistant. Certification by the NCCPA.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in an otolaryngology ambulatory clinic practice.

Experience with a cancer survivorship clinic.

Participation in professional PA organization(s.)
