Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth workflow with four-handed dentistry techniques
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, including X-ray equipment and 3D scanners, maintaining aseptic technique and infection control protocols
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring patient safety and adherence to HIPAA regulations for medical documentation and records management
- Manage patient flow by greeting patients as a dental receptionist, verifying vital signs, updating medical history, and explaining procedures clearly using appropriate dental terminology
- Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix to document treatment details accurately while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards
- Assist with medical imaging procedures and recordkeeping using EMR systems like Epic for comprehensive medical documentation
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, processing medical coding for insurance claims, and maintaining organized medical records
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially with pediatric patients or general dentistry practices
- Familiarity with dental assisting duties including chairside assisting, taking vital signs, and handling dental instruments
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques necessary for safe clinical practice
- Experience operating dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and digital imaging tools
- Proficiency in EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality
- Strong communication skills suitable for working alongside dentists, hygienists, patients, and administrative staff in a fast-paced environment
