Job SummaryWe are seeking a dynamic and versatile Medical Assistant – Float to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you must be service-oriented with a strong desire to assist others, including both patients and team members. This role requires empathy, professionalism, and a calm, reassuring demeanor when interacting with patients. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator who can work with diverse personalities, remains organized and reliable, and can adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

This position plays a key role in supporting providers while ensuring a high level of patient care, patient experience, and operational efficiency across multiple practice locations.

The Medical Assistant – Float provides direct clinical and administrative support to physicians and physician assistants across the practice. This role assists with medical assisting duties, manages patient flow, supports provider schedules, and facilitates patient and provider communications.

As a float position, the Medical Assistant provides coverage across providers and locations as needed to ensure continuity of patient care and operational support.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and collect basic medical history, entering information into the electronic medical record (Athena)
  • Prepare patients for provider examinations and procedures
  • Assist providers with clinical procedures including injections, ultrasound-guided injections, suture removal, wound care, and dressing changes
  • Apply and maintain casts, splints, and orthopedic soft goods as directed by the provider
  • Fit patients with braces and other durable medical equipment (DME) and complete required documentation for billing
  • Provide patient education regarding post-operative incision care, cast care, orthopedic appliances, and crutch use
  • Demonstrate sterile technique while assisting with procedures
  • Document procedures and clinical interactions appropriately in the medical record
  • Travel between practice locations to provide coverage and support to providers and care teams
  • Assist multiple providers and clinical teams depending on operational needs
  • Provide triage support to the front desk when patient scheduling or urgent needs arise
  • Maintain flexibility to adjust to changing daily priorities and staffing needs
  • Greet patients, vendors, and visitors in a professional, friendly manner
  • Demonstrate exceptional patient service and represent the organization positively
  • Address patient concerns and requests promptly and professionally
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, providers, and colleagues
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, HIPAA regulations, and professional standards
  • Manage provider schedules and support efficient patient flow throughout clinic sessions
  • Monitor provider communications including voicemail and EMR in-basket messages
  • Ensure timely follow-up with patients regarding test results and treatment plans
  • Return patient, vendor, attorney, and insurance calls in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with completion of disability and FMLA paperwork
  • Occasionally assist in coordinating a peer-to-peer review with insurance companies when required
  • Assist with attorney correspondence and documentation requests as needed
  • Work collaboratively with Surgical Scheduling and Authorization teams to ensure patients receive timely care and communication
  • Monitor provider schedules for cancellations or no-shows and take appropriate action
  • Duties may be added, as appropriate, by your supervisor at any time

Qualifications/Experience

  • Prior experience working as a Medical Assistant in outpatient clinics, hospital settings, or specialty practices such as dermatology or geriatrics is highly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly establish positive rapport with patients
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes, including workers’ compensation
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between practice locations

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or equivalent), or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (AMT or equivalent), or
  • Orthopedic Technologist Certification (OTC or ROT), or willingness to obtain within one year of hire

Pay: $23.00 – $26.00 per hour
