Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Position Summary

Location: Gastonia, North Carolina

Position Type: Full-Time

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team at a detention center in North Carolina. This full-time position involves providing primary care services to individuals within the detention center. The successful candidate must hold a valid North Carolina nurse practitioner or physician assistant license and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare to a unique patient population.

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct comprehensive health assessments and evaluations for residents in the detention center. 2. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions, including infectious diseases and injuries.

3. Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management, follow-up care, and referrals to specialists as needed. 4. Provide preventive care, health education, and counseling to promote wellness and disease prevention.

5. Collaborate with the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and support staff, to ensure integrated and coordinated care. 6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards. 7. Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing healthcare delivery within a detention center environment. 8. Participate in health promotion and disease prevention programs within the detention center.

9. Provide emergency care and respond to medical emergencies as required. 10. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice

Qualifications:

1. Current and unrestricted North Carolina Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license. 2. National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., ANCC, AANP) or Physician Assistant (e.g., NCCPA). 3. Previous experience in primary care, urgent care, or correctional healthcare is preferred but not required. 4. BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification. 5. Experience with MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) is preferred but not required.

6. Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. 7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations. 8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

9. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems. 10. Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining security protocols within a detention center.

11. Compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in providing care to detainees.
