Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) – Occupational Medicine provides high-quality medical care to employees and patients in an occupational health setting. This role focuses on injury evaluation and management, pre-employment and regulatory physicals, drug and alcohol testing oversight, and return-to-work coordination. The PA practices under the supervision of a licensed physician in accordance with state laws and clinic protocols and plays a critical role in supporting workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and employer health initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Evaluate and treat work-related injuries and illnesses in accordance with occupational medicine best practices.
- Perform pre-employment, post-offer, DOT, and regulatory physical examinations.
- Assess fitness-for-duty and determine work restrictions, modified duty, or return-to-work status.
- Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests as appropriate within scope of practice.
- Prescribe medications in compliance with state law and clinic policy.
Occupational Health Services
- Conduct and review drug and alcohol testing results in coordination with clinic staff and certified collectors.
- Complete DOT and non-DOT medical examinations and related documentation accurately and timely.
- Participate in employer-specific medical surveillance programs.
- Provide patient education related to injury prevention, workplace safety, and recovery expectations.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical records within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Complete all employer, regulatory, and workers’ compensation documentation thoroughly and on time.
- Adhere to OSHA, DOT, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Follow clinic policies, protocols, and supervising physician directives.
Collaboration & Operations
- Collaborate with Medical Assistants, Clinic Managers, and onsite staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Communicate effectively with employers, case managers, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Support onsite, mobile, or after-hours clinic operations as assigned.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and training activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the applicable state(s).
- NCCPA certification in good standing.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Eligibility for DEA registration (if applicable to prescribing duties).
- Strong knowledge of occupational medicine, urgent care, or primary care principles.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Preferred
- Prior experience in occupational medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, or workers’ compensation.
- DOT medical examiner certification (or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe).
- Experience working in employer-based, onsite, or high-volume clinical environments.

- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and assist patients or equipment as required.
- Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or onsite locations as business needs require.

Pay: $110,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
