POSITION: Physician Assistant – Procedural

DEPARTMENT: Pathology

REPORTS TO: Laboratory Medical Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Pathology Consultants, PC is a well-established multi-specialty physician-owned pathology laboratory located in Springfield, Oregon. We are seeking a part-time Procedural Physician Assistant. Candidates will be board certified Physician Assistants with procedural experience in the outpatient setting.

The Procedural Physician Assistant will work independently in our Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) clinic. The Physician Assistant is responsible for coordination and direct patient care in an outpatient setting. This position performs fine needle aspiration and bone marrow biopsies for patients referred to the clinic. The Physician Assistant will have excellent communication skills, work collaboratively with cytopathology and hematopathology physicians, and actively participate in the care of patients. The work schedule for this position will be flexible and mutually agreed upon by the practice and Physician Assistant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary function will be working in an outpatient setting providing ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration services with option to perform bone marrow biopsies if desired.
  • Collaborate with physician partners to create and maintain a collaborative agreement
  • Complete on-site training and maintain competencies outlined in collaborative agreement
  • Screen and triage new patient referrals as requested prior to scheduling appointments
  • Reviews and summarizes clinical information of the obtained history materials prior to the appointment including imaging reports as applicable
  • Documents care given and diagnostic information in Laboratory Information System
  • Answers questions about post- procedural care plans

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Graduate of accredited PA program
  • Master’s Degree required
  • 2-3 years of work experience as procedural PA
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Provide clear and accurate information via telephone and in person
  • A team-oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Active Oregon State Physician Assistant License
  • Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc (NCCPA)
  • BLS certification (current)

  • Work independently and collaboratively with pathologists
  • Establish working schedule that satisfies needs of the practice

  • Exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills

COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT:

  • Active participant in the creation of an agreement in conjunction with cytopathology and hematopathology departments

WORK SETTING:

  • In office: clinic exam room, medical office administrative setting

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary range: $122,000- $165,000

Pay: $122,000.00 – $165,000.00 per year
