Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Dermatology provides comprehensive medical and procedural dermatologic care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting under the supervision and/or collaboration of a licensed physician, as required by applicable state law. This role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin, hair, and nail disorders, consistent with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) standards, HRSA guidelines, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The APP works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team to promote high-quality, patient-centered dermatologic services for a diverse and underserved patient population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic dermatologic conditions within scope of practice and privileging.
  • Perform dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, cryotherapy, excisions, electrosurgery, and other minor surgical procedures, as credentialed and privileged.
  • Diagnose and manage common conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, infections, skin cancers, and autoimmune skin disorders.
  • Conduct full-body skin exams and skin cancer screenings.
  • Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, in accordance with collaborative agreements, clinical guidelines, and applicable laws.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including pathology and laboratory studies.
  • Provide patient education on skin care, sun protection, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and comply with billing requirements.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, and ancillary services; initiate and manage referrals as appropriate.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and clinical audits.
  • Provide culturally competent care to a diverse patient population.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, medical assistants, and care coordinators to support integrated care.
  • Adhere to supervision and/or collaboration requirements as mandated by state law and organizational policy.
  • Support organizational compliance with HRSA, Joint Commission, NCQA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Training

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • Formal dermatology training, fellowship, or equivalent clinical experience preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license.
  • National certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).
  • Current DEA registration.
  • BLS/ACLS certification.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in an outpatient dermatology setting preferred.
  • Experience working in an FQHC or underserved community setting preferred.
  • Experience with ECW EMR systems required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual: Spanish, preferrred.
  • Strong dermatologic clinical judgment and procedural skills within scope of practice.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, team-based care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with EMR documentation and clinical workflows.
  • Knowledge of dermatologic clinical guidelines and evidence-based practices.
  • Knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations, including HRSA requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with supervising physicians and clinical staff.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily performed in a clinical office setting.
  • May require standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform dermatologic procedures and physical examinations.
  • Occasional travel between clinic sites may be required.

Pay: $155,000.00 – $210,000.00 per year
