- The nation’s first Physician Assistant Program was created at Duke in 1965 and is consistently ranked No. 1 in the country.
- The Duke School of Nursing is consistently ranked as one of the top nursing schools and their MSN and DNP programs offers eight advanced practice registered nurse majors and specialty certifications, as well as post master’s certificates and certification alignment programs.

- Duke offers APPs opportunities to practice within team based integrative care in a tremendous variety of specialties. APPs are expected to work to top of scope in order to contribute to Duke’s missions which include clinical practice, education, and research.
- Practice locations can include Duke Health’s three hospitals or over 140 primary care and specialty care clinics throughout North Carolina.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with flexibility in your schedule and assignment to support operational needs, including but not limited to rotation across practice sites, adjustments in start/end times and participation in extended or alternative clinic hours when necessary.
- All methods of family planning and counseling for reproductive life planning including IUD Placement and removal and Nexplanon insertion and removal
- Routine Well Woman Exams and Pap Smears
- Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Treatment for symptoms of menopause/perimenopause
- Breast changes or masses
- Pelvic/abdominal pain
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Routine Postoperative follow-up and problem visits
- Endometrial, cervical and vulvar biopsies
- Treatment of vulvar absences
- Complete the new obstetric exam with identification of any problems complicating pregnancy or pre-existent to pregnancy
- Initiate plan of care/diagnostic testing/interpretation of labs/treatment plan based on individual patient medical/surgical history
- Provide patient education relating to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care
- Perform FHR assessment, NST interpretation, cervical exam for labor assessment
- Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff as well as other relevant healthcare providers.
- Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions and communications with physician/advanced practice provider colleagues.
- Provide timely response to patients Maestro Care and phone messages.

- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- BLS required
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Must have DEA license at start of employment
- Prefer 1+ years of work experience as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner and/or RN in Women’s Health. If a new PA or NP graduate, OB-GYN clinical rotations
