Job Summary: The licensed and credentialed NP or PA provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up under the supervision of 1 or more physicians in the Tejas Health Care clinics. The NP or PA provides age and specialty appropriate medical care at the level of training achieved.
Job Duties:
- Provides Clinical Services
- Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the population in the practice while administering quality patient care to patients of all ages.
- Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
- Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues.
- Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
- Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance), JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), and state regulatory standards.
- Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and Quality and Standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.
- Analyzes new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or “hands-on training” and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.
- Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
- Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and supports office manager and clerical staff in performance of their duties.
- Serves on Quality assurance/Performance improvement (QA/PI) Team
- May involve rotating later evening clinic hours and Saturday clinic times with other providers.
- Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned by Medical Director or Executive Director/CEO.

Required

- Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of Tejas Health Care’s current operational protocols
- Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
- Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to a patient’s needs
- Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, Tejas staff, and the general public
- Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers
Preferred
- Spanish speaking and writing skills
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current unrestricted license from Texas or multi-state compact RN and Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) license to practice.
- Current CPR-Basic required
- Must be registered and have current DEA and other such certificates to legally operate a practitioner in the State of Texas
OR
Required
- Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Current unrestricted license from the Texas Physician Assistant Board to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Texas
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification
- Annual continuing medical education as required by the Texas Physician Assistant Board
- Must be registered and have current DEA and other such certificates to legally operate a practitioner in the State of Texas
Preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of experience practicing as Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant, but not required.
- Current certification by AANP or ANCC preferred.
- Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
Scope of Practice
The licensed/certified employee will provide services to THC patients, under the delegation of supervising physician(s), consistent with the individual’s credentials and scope of practice as licensed by the State of Texas abiding by all applicable laws, regulations, rules and accreditation standards and be consistent with privileges granted by the Board of Directors.
Special Requirements
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination; sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time; working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours; and frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The Employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is also required
