General Summary:

The physician extender must maintain an understanding of and expertise in clinical operations and procedures. Ongoing skills include supervising and training staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments to better serve patients and the practice. The physician extender offers information and advice to patients in a calm, confidential and courteous manner to ensure that their visit is a positive learning experience. Cooperates fully with other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Essential Job Function:

Care for patients on a daily basis through examinations, diagnoses, treatment and testing.

Advise scheduling department of any changes or expected complications.

Assess patient, diagnosis and establish plan of treatment.

Return patient phone calls, advise accordingly and document recommendations.

Use computer EMR to document notes.

Meet with pharmaceutical representatives.

Perform procedures on a scheduled or as needed basis per Physician’s request.

Refill intrathecal pumps with the ordered medications under the Physician’s supervision.

Prescribe drugs to patients within ethical and standard medical practices and procedures.

Inform/advise nursing staff of low or missing supplies as needed.

Answer patient questions or concerns about drugs, procedures and course of action.

Escort patients to and from exam rooms.

Maintains office OSHA records and confidentiality under HIPAA standards.

Records detailed patient and medical notes to a standard acceptable of the medical field.

Able to perform calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.

Review insurance criteria to know what patients need prior to procedures.

Seeks educational activities and maintains personal growth.

Ability to multi-task and change priorities on an as needed basis to ensure safety.

Accepts direction of supervisor.

Good communicative skills with all team members.

Follows proper reporting channels.

Handles problems with tact and skill.

Cognizant of changes in medical practices.

Demonstrates knowledge of the practices policy.

Provides coverage for and assists other staff members when necessary.

Makes suggestions to improve level of care and efficiency of the practice as a whole.

Other duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibility

Must practice medicine autonomously and freely collaborate with the Physician on issues of interest before discharging patient. Knows the informal policies, procedures and practices necessary to conduct the informal function of a specific section, unit or work area. Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit. Maintains patient confidentiality. Records detailed accurate written and verbal assessments. Any other work or task required to promote or enhance the level of care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
