Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive patient care across various settings, including hospital, outpatient, and specialty clinics. This role involves performing physical examinations, diagnosing conditions, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Experience with diverse medical systems such as Epic, Cerner, and eClinicalWorks is preferred. The Physician Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced environment that may include critical care, emergency medicine, primary care, and specialized fields like hospice & palliative medicine, pain management, and infectious disease care. This position offers opportunities for involvement in clinical research, telehealth services, and advanced procedures such as suturing, botulinum toxin treatment, and diagnostic evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including intake, vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using EMR systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations utilizing medical imaging, laboratory data collection, and diagnostic testing including phlebotomy and radiology procedures.
- Administer medications and injections following aseptic techniques while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage acute pain through appropriate interventions such as IV infusion, ventilator management, airway management, and use of specialized equipment like neonatal ventilators or dialysis machines.
- Assist in surgical procedures including suturing and dermabrasion; support OR activities with experience in dermal fillers or esthetic laser treatments preferred.
- Provide patient education on health coaching, nutrition, family planning, addiction counseling, and post-acute care planning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine settings such as ICU, PICU, or Level I & II trauma centers to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in clinical research trials related to infectious diseases, cancer treatments (radiation therapy), or other specialties; maintain accurate medical records and CPT/ICD coding for billing purposes.
- Support discharge planning processes and coordinate outpatient follow-up or home care services including DME provision or tube feeding management.
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and infection prevention standards across all clinical activities.
Skills
- Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks.
- Proficiency in performing physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations across various specialties such as emergency medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics (including NICU/PICU), neonatology (ventilator management), and hospice & palliative medicine.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology; ability to interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory data accurately.
- Skilled in medication administration—including injections—and advanced procedures like suturing or dermal fillers.
- Familiarity with CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) for billing compliance.
- Experience managing complex cases involving ventilator support, cardiac catheterization procedures, catheterization techniques, or infectious disease care.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments such as trauma centers or emergency rooms; capable of triage and acute pain management.
- Knowledge of infection control practices; experience with telehealth platforms is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education; compassionate approach to diverse patient populations including senior care and home health settings.
