Position Summary
The Float Physician Assistant (PA) provides high-quality clinical care across multiple clinic locations and onsite assignments within the Occupational Medicine division. This role supports scheduled and unscheduled coverage needs, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining service excellence during high-volume periods, provider PTO, call-outs, or staffing gaps. The Float PA practices under established physician protocols and state regulations, delivering efficient, accurate, and compliant clinical services.
The ideal candidate is flexible, clinically strong, and comfortable working in dynamic and fast-paced environments while upholding the organization’s patient care, productivity, and compliance standards.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & Patient Management
- Perform focused physical exams, injury evaluations, return-to-work assessments, and occupational health services at assigned locations.
- Conduct DOT and non-DOT physicals, pre-employment and regulatory exams, respirator clearances, and surveillance exams (after credentialing/certification).
- Diagnose and treat work-related injuries and illnesses based on evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing, including labs, X-rays, and functional tests.
- Develop and communicate patient treatment plans, including work restrictions and follow-up care requirements.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians regarding complex cases or cases requiring escalation.
Float Coverage & Operational Flexibility
- Provide coverage across multiple clinic locations based on business needs, staffing shortages, scheduled provider PTO, or unexpected call-outs.
- Support onsite employer events, mobile clinical units, and episodic worksite clinics as assigned.
- Adapt quickly to varied clinic workflows, patient volumes, team arrangements, and EMR environments.
- Maintain readiness to respond to same-day coverage needs when feasible.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all electronic medical records timely, accurately, and in compliance with documentation standards (same-day completion required).
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, state practice act requirements, DOT/FMCSA guidelines, and HIPAA.
- Maintain all required certifications, including DOT Medical Examiner certification if performing DOT physicals.
- Ensure medical documentation meets internal audit and quality review benchmarks.
Patient & Client Relations
- Provide an exceptional patient experience that aligns with company service standards.
- Maintain professional communication with employers regarding work status, restrictions, and follow-up plans (within regulatory guidelines).
- Work collaboratively with clinic managers, medical assistants, and support staff to maintain optimal patient flow and clinic efficiency.
Team Support & Collaboration
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to MAs and clinic support teams.
- Participate in internal training, quality improvement initiatives, and provider meetings.
- Assist in onboarding and mentorship of new clinical team members as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the state(s) of practice.
- National board certification (NCCPA).
- Current DEA license (or ability to obtain).
- DOT Certified Medical Examiner (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in Occupational Medicine, Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Primary Care, or a related setting.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to multiple clinic locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior occupational health or workers’ compensation experience.
- Familiarity with EMRs and multi-site practice environments.
- BAT and DOT urine collector certification.
- Ability to work occasional after-hours or weekend assignments based on business needs.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical exam components for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to perform range of motion exams, mobility tests, and respirator fit evaluations.
Work Schedule
- Float schedule Monday–Saturday depending on clinic hours.
- Assignments set weekly by Clinical Operations with flexibility required for emergent coverage needs.
- Occasional after-hours, weekend, or onsite events depending on client requirements.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $115,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
