General Summary:

The physician assistant, under the direction of the collaborating physician, is responsible for specialty care services, including assessing/managing patients and performing first assist duties during surgery.

· Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with physicians, office staff, patients, and their caregivers.

· Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

· Ability to read and write medical terminology.

· Ability to actively participate in team-oriented processes.

· Computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.

· Supports and contributes to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ambulatory Duties and Responsibilities:

· Obtain medical histories as well as updating medical records and appropriately documenting patient care services by charting in patient records (EMR).

· Performs physical examinations and provides treatment and counseling.

· Evaluates patients who may require the immediate attention of a physician/surgeon by recognizing urgent and emergent neurosurgical issues.

· Ordering of appropriate diagnostic tests and laboratory studies.

· Interpretation of diagnostics test results including: x-rays, MRI, CT scans, and laboratory data of the brain and spine.

· Counsels patients regarding prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.

· Maintains accurate and complete patient records.

· Develops and implements patient management plans and assists in provision of continuity of care.

· Develops and provides education related to pre and post-operative evaluation and treatment plans.

· Provides oversight of all surgical cases related to scheduling and medical clearance.

Inpatient and Surgical Responsibilities:

· Assists with neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomies, spinal procedures (including instrumentations) and microscopic procedures.

· Conducts hospital rounds on a daily basis on all patients, including intensive care units.

· Writes orders and progress notes.

· Performs all admission history and physicals and inpatient consultations.

· Orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests, such as MRI’s, CT scans, myelograms, bone scans and other radiographic studies.

· Performs call coverage responsibilities as assigned by call schedule.

Education and/or Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program.

· Oregon state PA license.

· National certification by one of the Physician Assistant certifying bodies i.e. (NCCPA).

· Fulfills requirements of hospital medical staff credentialing.

· Maintains active staff membership in good standing with medical staff office of the hospital with privileges.

· DEA license with no restrictions.

· Current BLS/ACLS certification.

· Experience with EMR preferred.

· Bi-lingual a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year
