Full Job Description

As a member of the health care team, a Physician Assistant provides primary care services at FRTH clinics in accordance with approved standardized procedures and protocols. Duties also include, but are not limited to, performing diagnostic services that include securing medical histories; conducting physical examinations; interpreting laboratory and x-ray results, in order to define health problems and ascertain therapy required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide primary health care under standardized protocols in accordance with Physician Assistant provisions of the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
  • Under physician preceptorship, furnish pharmaceuticals and/or medical devices to patients within the limits established by written protocols.
  • Diagnose and manage common health problems; collaborate and consult with physicians in the management of more complex cases.
  • Screen for problems that need to be referred to staff physicians or other resources, as appropriate.
  • Perform physical examinations.
  • Administer injections and immunizations.
  • Regulate selected medications and/or treatments.
  • Coordinate all phases of the patient?s health care and collaborate with other members of the health care team.
  • Provide individual, family and community health education as needed.
  • Initiate and maintain Problem Oriented Medical Records (?S.O.A.P.? format) using dictated patient summaries, provider templates, and/or electronic health records.
  • Serve on various clinic committees and/or special work groups as agreed upon with the Medical Director.
  • Meet regularly with other clinic providers to review patient care and participate in Quality and Performance Improvement activities (peer review).
  • Use prudent judgment when emergencies require action beyond established protocols; notify precepting physician and/or Medical Director immediately.
  • Demonstrate dependability by being punctual; maintain consistent attendance.
  • Maintain good working relations among all staff through appropriate communication.
  • At the time of hire, each employee will meet with their supervisor to set measurable goals and objectives that are a requirement for the position. These measurables will be monitored by the supervisor and reviewed during the introductory period. They will also be utilized in the annual performance evaluation. The measurables may change from year to year. The supervisor is responsible to notify the employee of any new measurables at the time of the performance review.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With specialized training, and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to assigned area.
  • Participate in continuing education in order to provide the highest quality of care to the patient population and to maintain a current and active license.
  • Attend all trainings, meetings, and conferences as required.
  • Work with the organization in development and provision of health education for staff and patients.
  • Learn and implement electronic health records functions as they continue to evolve.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of education and training in the field of family medicine/physician assistantship and certified to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of California.
  • Current California license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination and designated Physician Assistant ? Certified (preferred but not required) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Current DEA number and certification for controlled substances.
  • Possession of a valid California driver?s license and current car insurance sufficient to be insurable, if a designated requirement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, or balance and use taste and smell senses. The employee must regularly be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position is physically and emotionally challenging. There is a high degree of stress. Ability to deal with time constraints and emotional stress and exposure to body fluids and viruses are also essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to odors and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $74.60-$79.17, depending on experience
