Full Job Description
Position Summary – Working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of physician assistant services following established policies and protocols. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides services to patients including but not limited to ambulatory care, taking health histories, risk assessment and cancer screening, performing assessments, diagnosis, and conducting health education and counseling.
- Assess, manage, and treat acute, chronic, benign, and malignant breast conditions. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Interpret breast imagery (ultrasound, mammogram, MRI) collaboratively with breast radiologists.
- Interpret breast pathology.
- Perform genetic testing based on NCCN guidelines, interpreting common testing results, and conducting counseling based on results.
- Routine meetings with laboratory representatives and Cancer IQ management.
- Develops plans of care based on patient assessment ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with established physician assistant protocols.
- Provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families.
- Refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms/response to treatments tried.
- Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management.
- Prescribes medication appropriate to breast care management. Will need current DEA and CDS licensure.
- Routine office-based procedures: venipuncture, I&D, obtain cultures, punch biopsies, post-operative care, suture removal and wound care.
- First-assistant to breast surgeons in operating room (hospital OR and ASC) for mastectomies, sentinel node and lumpectomies.
- Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy
- Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights.
- Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
- Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
- Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; federal, state, and local regulations.
- Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities.
- Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with office staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Frequently required to stand

- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information and use a keyboard

- Occasionally exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
Education and Experience MA/MS completion of an accredited physician assistant program. 1– 3 years Certificate and Licenses Needed
- Graduate from an accredited school.
- Current NJ state PA license and CPR certification.
- DEA licensure in NJ.
- CDS licensure in NJ.
- Credentialing at various local hospitals and surgical centers.
- Two to four years related experience or equivalent, preferred but not required.
