Full Job Description
The Physician Assistant (PA) in Pain Management provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with acute and chronic pain. The PA works closely with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, interventional procedures, and non-pharmacologic therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations for individuals with acute and chronic pain conditions.
- Develop and implement pain management plans under the supervision of a physician.
- Prescribe and manage medications, including controlled substances, following federal and state regulations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests such as imaging, laboratory studies, and nerve conduction tests.
- Assist with or perform minor interventional procedures (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections, nerve blocks) depending on training and state scope of practice.
- Educate patients and families on pain management strategies, medication safety, and lifestyle modifications.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and behavioral health specialists to ensure integrated care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and compliance training.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited PA program.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Physician Assistant license in [State].
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
- DEA registration and state-controlled substance license (if applicable).
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in pain management, anesthesiology, neurology, orthopedics, or a related specialty preferred.
- Experience with chronic pain patients, medication management, and interventional procedures is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies

Work Environment
- Outpatient pain management clinic and/or hospital setting.
- May involve exposure to patients with complex medical and psychological conditions.
- Regular working hours with occasional extended or weekend shifts depending on clinic schedule.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $109,937.54 – $132,397.89 per year
