Psychiatry Physician Assistant (PA) Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatry Physician Assistant (PA) to join our behavioral health team. The PA will work collaboratively with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients across diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including comprehensive histories and mental status examinations.
- Formulate and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising psychiatrist(s).
- Prescribe medications, monitor treatment effectiveness, and adjust regimens as clinically indicated.
- Provide crisis intervention and support for patients experiencing acute psychiatric episodes.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and preventive care.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans accurately and promptly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including therapists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in case conferences, peer reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with evidence-based psychiatric practices, new medications, and treatment guidelines.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current and valid PA license in CA.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- DEA license (or eligibility) for prescribing psychiatric medications.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatry or mental health preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to providing patient-centered, culturally competent care.
Work Environment
- Outpatient psychiatric clinic setting, telehealth, or mixed.
- Regular schedule: Monday to Thursday 8-5, Friday 8-2

Pay: $80.00 – $95.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 38 per week
