OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Medical Director and the supervision of a physician, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides primary medical care in accordance with accepted professional standards. The PA will adhere to the organization’s policies, procedures, and code of ethics, and ensure compliance with all licensing and accreditation standards. The PA must represent the organization’s mission in all actions and communications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Health Maintenance and Patient Care:
- Provide comprehensive health maintenance services for clients.
- Assist in the coordination and/or supervision of preventive services, including well-child, well-adult, maternity care, and prenatal care.
- Assist in diagnosing and treating medical conditions and providing support services (e.g., laboratory and pharmacy).
- Quality Assurance and Training:
- Contribute to maintaining the Quality Assurance Program.
- Assist in the implementation of an ongoing in-service training program for clinical staff.
- Liaison and Communication:
- Act as a liaison with the medical community and establish linkages with external agencies and organizations.
- Attend internal and external departmental meetings to discuss progress toward meeting clinical program goals and agency objectives.
- Ensure appropriate referrals are made to encourage continuity of care.
- Physician Collaboration:
- Ensure appropriate physician interventions when necessary.
- Participate in the after-call system and hospital rounding as agreed upon.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Adhere to CSHS’s compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Stay informed of all relevant federal, state, and CSHS regulations, laws, and policies, and ensure compliance is met.
- Ensure staff are trained on compliance policies specific to their roles.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Site Manager.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
- Clinical Competence:
- Basic Life Support/CPR training as required by licensing or certification.
- Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to assess and make decisions under pressure.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members.
- Tact and professionalism in meeting and dealing with patients and colleagues.

- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while accepting and utilizing constructive criticism.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding agency and client information.
- Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to work under various work demands and pressures while demonstrating a professional attitude and stability.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as standing, walking, bending, or lifting up to 50 pounds.
Frequent use of telephone and computer systems requiring manual dexterity for writing and typing.

Learning
EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATES:
- Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan.
- Board certification or eligibility for certification in a relevant specialty field.
Insurable for liability coverage as a Physician Assistant in Michigan.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Evidence of professional growth (continuing education, CEUs) or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical Demands:
- Possible exposure to patients/clients with illnesses and infections.
- Frequent telephone and computer use, requiring manual dexterity for writing and typing.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, and to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, squat, or kneel as needed during patient care.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
CLIENT POPULATION SERVED:
May serve all patient populations.
