Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Physician Assistant to become a member of J.D. McCarty Center’s pediatric medical team serving children with developmental disabilities. This practitioner would work semi-autonomously to provide quality care across a variety of clinical settings working closely with physicians, healthcare teams, and other providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and well-being of our pediatric patients.

Hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Salary starting at $105,000.00

Basic Purpose: This position is assigned responsibilities to assist with patient care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The position will serve as the main licensed medical professional for the ABA outpatient clinic, conduct the medical evaluation component of the therapeutic services screenings, and examine and treat inpatients as requested by the hospital’s attending physicians. The hospital’s physician will act as the consulting physician for supervisory purposes for the selected candidate. Typical Job Functions: Will serve as the primary medical professional for the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) outpatient clinic to include examining patients for illness or injury. Will conduct evaluations in the event of physical holds/restraint and or the completion of an incident report. Will provide first aid and prepare and distribute medications to ABA outpatients as needed and allowed by hospital policies and procedures. Will complete all required and necessary documentation to include charting, H&P’s, incident reports, etc. within a timely manner and in compliance with hospital, local, state, and federal guidelines. Will attend and participate in staffing meetings, medical records committee, safety committee, infection control/pharmacy and therapeutics meetings, admission review committee, and any other meetings deemed necessary by the Executive Leadership Team of the hospital, as scheduled on a weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly basis. Will attend and participate in all annual Medical Dental Staff meetings and monthly Executive Committee meetings. Will perform comprehensive physical examinations and secure health histories for the History & Physical component of Therapeutic Services Screenings as directed. Will participate on the Admission Review Committee to assist with determining approval status for an inpatient evaluation. Will complete comprehensive physical assessments, treat inpatients, and prescribe pharmaceuticals as requested by attending physicians and in accordance with all hospital, local, state, and federal guidelines. Will serve as an on-call provider for both inpatient and camper issues as directed. Will coordinate and provide necessary orientation, education, and training to all staff and patient families as directed. Will identify needs for policies and procedures by observing relevant conditions/practices, gathering appropriate information, and consulting and collaborating with other affected entities. Will review existing policies and procedures on an annual basis for accuracy and will make and communicate any required changes. Will develop and recommend practice standards, evaluate care outcomes, suggest strategies to improve program delivery, and participate in quality assurance activities which pertain to assigned duties. Will participate as a member of the mobile screening team as directed. Will maintain a professional appearance and attitude and will establish and maintain effective working relationships with other hospital departments. The above job functions are not meant to be all-inclusive. As such, the provider will perform other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of certification as a physician assistant by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision with delegated prescriptive authority for Schedules II, III, IV, and V drugs and registration with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs and national certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants. The Physician Assistant must complete a minimum of six thousand two hundred forty (6,240) of postgraduate clinical practice hours with prescriptive authority supervised by a physician. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of health administrative techniques and public health procedure; supervisory and team dynamics practices and principles; agency human resource rules, practices, and procedures; health care delivery systems; ambulatory care; medical management techniques; and the uses of medicines for illness. Skills required include skill in analyzing information and data; critical thinking; making informed decisions based on information, data, and standard level of care; and problem solving. Abilities required include the ability to plan and evaluate training activities to meet needs and priorities of health care staff; provide leadership and direction in emergency situations; establish and maintain internal and external relationships; and ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences.
About J.D. McCarty Center: J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs. Benefits:
