Physician Assistant-Gastroenterology | Permanent Role

Location: Round Rock, TX, 78665 Shift: Full-time days | 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week Compensation: Based on experience

Essential Functions:

  • Perform and obtain comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories to assess patients’ physical and mental condition.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
  • Prescribe or recommend medical drug therapies and other treatments. Perform procedures per approved protocols, ensuring efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care; coordinate with physicians and the care team as needed.
  • Evaluate patients’ responses to care and its effectiveness.
  • Provide counseling to patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Counsel patients regarding drug regimens, side effects, and interactions with supplements, OTC medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of treatment plans and outcomes. Initiate timely consultation and referral when a problem exceeds the scope of practice or expertise.
  • Deliver consultative services related to your specialty and training.
  • Manage patients in other healthcare settings as needed (e.g., inpatient, emergency, procedural areas).
  • Perform invasive procedures within the scope of practice and delegated authority.
  • May be required to provide care beyond normal scheduled hours to support departmental needs.

  • Knowledge of medical information, diagnoses, treatment alternatives, drug properties/interactions, and preventive measures.
  • Knowledge of methods for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with computers and healthcare software.
  • Ability to develop and implement outcomes-based patient treatment plans.
  • Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions and treatment plans.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience Gastroenterology.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Texas
    • Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
