Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Trauma Surgery
Location: Southfield, MI
Inpatient/Outpatient: 100% inpatient
Position Overview:
Henry Ford Health is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our high-performing Trauma Surgery team at Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital. This is a full-time, days position with rotating weekend coverage and no call responsibilities. The role includes responding to trauma activations, rounding on inpatients, and providing care in the Trauma ICU. The caseload includes a mix of adult and pediatric trauma patients, offering a diverse and engaging clinical experience.
We are looking for candidates with a minimum of one year of experience in trauma, ICU, emergency medicine, or surgery. New graduates will not be considered. Ideal candidates will have strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Schedule – Full-Time, Days. 3, 12-hour shifts. 5a-5p.
Weekend requirement – Rotating Weekends.
Call requirement – No.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care for injured and surgical critical care patients. Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders, and interprets tests, makes diagnoses, and institutes appropriate treatment. Works in collaboration with trauma and surgical critical care physicians, staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master’s degree in Nursing. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Certified Nurse Practitioner in Michigan. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Michigan. Current ACLS and PALS provider status. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) provider status within three (3) months of hire.
Qualifications:
- NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
- PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
- NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
- PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure and Certification
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
- National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required by
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by American Heart Association.
- DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
- ATLS required within 6 months of hire.
DEA – NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs. When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won’t have a CSL.
Experience
- Surgical, ICU, Trauma, or ER experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience in one of the fields listed above.
Skills
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
