Full Job Description

The Physician Assistant is responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries as part of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model in a Family Medicine setting; provides comprehensive, outpatient medical services for individuals and families on a continuing basis; and may, at certain locations, provide a continuum of care into inpatient and/or residential settings.

Benefits are pro-rated on part time basis based on the FTE status.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the essential functions, practices and procedures of a medical clinic and office
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Knowledge of and ability to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases and injuries in a Family Practice model setting
  • Knowledge of, skills related to and ability to treat medical and surgical emergencies
  • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing word processing, databases and e-mail
  • Skill in operating various office equipment: calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone
  • Skill in operating various medical office equipment, such as; EKG machine, pulse oximeter, nebulizer, spirometer, audiology, sterilizers, etc.
  • Ability to work as a team member of an interdisciplinary care delivery model known as the Patient-Centered Medical Home and Team Care Medicine model.
  • Ability to hold a State Pharmacy Dispensing License and dispense medications (dependent upon health center location)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, patient financial and medical information
  • Ability to read, write legibly, calculate mathematical figures and medication doses
  • Ability to solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and to enhance teamwork in the clinics and overall CHA’s organization
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to provider culturally-competent care to all patient types regardless of age, race, gender, or ethnicity. Spanish language proficiency helpful but not required.
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups as defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, etc.
  • Ability to hear and speak to converse over telephone and interview patients
  • Ability to see to accurately calculate and administer doses of medication and perform physical exams
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a frequent basis

Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited program of Physician Assistants; certified by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant. Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a community health center or rural health setting preferred but not required. Must be licensed in the State of Nevada.
