The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity formed by Mass General Brigham to deliver high quality, low cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. This work stems from Mass General Brigham’s unified system strategy to bring health care closer to patients while lowering total health care costs. The Medical Group provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, and urgent care, both digitally as well as at physical locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The group also offers outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion. We share the commitment to delivering a coordinated and comprehensive experience across all locations, ensuring the appropriate level of care is available to every patient across our care delivery sites. We are seeking a 40-hour, Rotating Shift Physician Assistant to support our Sports Medicine Walk-In Clinic. Our clinics are located at 978 Worcester Street (Route 9) in Wellesley and the Boston Landing location at 73 Guest Street in Boston. We are open to our patients 7 days per week, and this PA will be required to work out of both locations as needed. Our needs are evolving, but we currently anticipate that this PA will work 1 evening shift (12:00 PM to 8:00 PM) and 3 day shifts per week. Hours of operation for the Wellesley location are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Hours of operation for the Boston Landing location are Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Our Orthopedic Walk-In clinic is staffed by Orthopedic Physician Assistants and supported by board-certified surgeons from Newton-Wellesley Sports Medicine. Our team can assist with any orthopedic or sports medicine issue and is available to anyone in the community, with no appointment necessary. Our PAs work under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director and Lead Walk-In PA as well as the operational direction of the Practice Manager. Services for adults and children (ages 5 and up) include:

  • Acute and chronic pain to the hip, hand, wrist, elbow, knee, neck, back, shoulder, foot, and ankle
  • Rotator cuff injury
  • Joint instability
  • Collar bone injury
  • Bicep injury
  • Tennis elbow
  • Hamstring injury
  • Meniscal tear
  • Ankle sprains
  • Arthritis and bursitis
  • Acute hand or wrist injury

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

Qualifications

Education Master’s Degree Physician Assistant required Licenses and Credentials Licensed Physician Assistant in the state of MA required Experience 2 years of experience as a PA required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Additional Job Details (if applicable)

2+ years of orthopedics, emergency medicine and/or urgent care experience strongly preferred.
