Full Job Description

Marquette University, a leader in physician assistant education, announces a Faculty position for a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The physician assistant (PA) Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor reports directly to the Program Director of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. The PA department is housed within the College of Health Sciences (CHS) and works collaboratively with the College’s other departments to achieve Marquette’s mission of cura personalis, care for the whole person. The department is comprised of fifteen full-time and several part time Faculty, a Program Specialist, Assessment Specialist, Administrative Assistant, and Office Associate to support 75 students in each cohort. The Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor Faculty position is responsible for providing clinical and didactic instruction, evaluation of student performance, development of clinical curriculum and assessments, participating in clinical site and preceptor recruitment, student advising, professional development, and student admissions. The Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position allows for one day per week to work clinically at a location of the candidates choosing and the day would be approved by the Program Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide didactic, pre-clinical instruction and evaluation of student performance in Physician Assistant courses as assigned by the Program Director. Participate in the recruitment and monitoring of student evaluations while on clinical rotations. Administrative assignment supporting the program, including teaching, advising, admissions, and assessment of courses in the Marquette PA program. Additional duties include assisting the Director of Clinical Education with the administration of the clinical year, including, but not limited to, clinical site recruitment and management, student and preceptor site visits, clinical student success and advising, student progress and promotion, clinical site/preceptor onboarding, clinical student schedule creation and ongoing management, planning and facilitating return to campus events for clinical students, and data collection and assessment.
Opportunities to participate in active and simulation-based teaching. Write and update course syllabi, assist with curriculum review and assessment, and complete learning objective development and revisions. Implement and track accreditation instructional objectives and remediations, as assigned by the Program Director, and prepare reports for the accreditation committee and assessment committee.
Contribute to other team-based teaching courses as assigned by the Program Director. Advise, schedule and maintain accurate records on students. Participate in program assessment processes during the clinical year and contribute to ongoing departmental assessments. Maintain office hours in accordance with contractual guidelines. Engage in professional development and learning technological enhancement activities. Participate in the student admissions and review processes, interviewing and final selection. Assist with the preparation of grant proposals with follow-up activities as directed by the Program Director.
Contribute to the betterment of the College and University through committee participation (10%, effective after first year). Perform other appropriate job-related duties as assigned by the Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program with current or eligible WI State Licensure.
Must have knowledge and vision about the future of the profession and a strong commitment to achieve the Jesuit mission of the College and Marquette University.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Significant clinical experience as a Physician Assistant. (minimum 5 years preferred).
  • Teaching and/or precepting experience.
  • Knowledge of current concepts in physician assistants, clinical instruction and evaluation.
  • Ability to think and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to orally communicate accurately and effectively to proactively influence the action of others, in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks of workload with deadlines.
  • Administrative capabilities demonstrated by previous work experience.
  • Must be skilled at PC/Mac use and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management applications. Additional computer skills highly desirable. Developed organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Current NCCPA National Certification
