Full Job Description

Our Blood Institute is looking for an advanced Physicians Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to practice medicine under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. As a part of the Medical Team, this position will provide clinical care services on behalf of the physician group.

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Salary: Competitive salary based on education and/or experience plus $500 bonus after 6 months and $1,000 bonus after 1 year!

Days: Monday through Friday; some weekends

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; some evenings

Position:

This position shares responsibility with, while answering to, the Medical Directors for developing, evaluating and implementing the clinical and medical direction for Our Blood Institute and carrying out the critical missions of the organization which include: (1) the adequacy, quality and safety of all blood and cellular products, (2) medically directing the specialized functions of the Blood Institute, (3) education of the lay community, health care professionals, and other special groups as to the importance of blood donation, appropriate transfusion medicine practices, and the risks and benefits of transfusions to save or improve quality of life and (4) directing and overseeing appropriate clinical or applications based research intended to improve the quality and/or safety of the blood supply.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Has passed the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE).
  • Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Oklahoma or for an NP graduation from an Oklahoma accredited NP program, licensed in Oklahoma and national certification achieved.
  • 1 year of experience as a physician extender preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cell therapy patient and donor eligibility and suitability.
  • Ensure quality activities and process improvement strategies are implemented in a timely manner, remain relevant and are effective.
  • Communicate with OBI medical staff and others about future clients and the organizational impact.
  • Become familiar with both regulatory and accreditation requirements for screening and consenting donors used as source biomaterial for cell therapy clients.
  • Participate in patient coordination meetings.
  • Participate in weekly Cell Therapy Collection meetings.
  • Participate in monthly Cell Therapy Quality meetings.
  • Evaluate donor and patient reactions occurring during cell therapy collection procedures.
  • Participate in at least 20 hours of continuing medical education annually with at least 12 hours of educational activities related to the field of cellular therapy, cell collection, and/or quality management.
  • Prepare and participate in FACT inspections.
  • Participate in industry and internal audits.
  • Verify SOPs or forms upon request.
  • Write orders for calcium replacement (or other indicated prescription medications for the cell therapy clinical service) as needed.
  • Perform physical examinations on healthy donors or patients as needed for protocol or indicated.
  • Provide educational activities to cell collection staff and others upon request.
  • Participate in QIR investigations and root cause analysis as appropriate.
  • Perform telapheresis services to remote sites for suitability determination or for consultation to remote staff as indicated.
  • Document clearly all clinical activities in medical records and appropriate forms.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with related pertinent OBI sections – CTC, R&D, Quality, CTL, QC lab, administration and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
