Description

Under the leadership of Physician/Medical Director, assumes clinical responsibility for tasks performed within Physician Assistant (PA) scope of practice. Provides high quality comprehensive health care to patients in all levels of care (Detoxification, Residential, and Outpatient services) including: taking patient’s history, performing physical and psychiatric examinations, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, establishing diagnosis and provide care and management for common illnesses and disease prevention in the adult patient.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and diagnose patients by performing psychiatric evaluations and review medical histories to assess patients’ mental health status.
  • Oversees the admissions of patients in the detox setting.
  • Completed H&P on all residential patients
  • Assists in the admission, transfer or discharge from the facility when needed.
  • Actively carry caseload of Outpatients on Medication Assisted Treatment.
  • Documents client’s progress in the clinical record including admission order, progress notes, and discharge orders. Oversees delivery of medication education and consent, according to established policy.
  • Prescribe medications to treat substance use and treat mental health conditions as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with treatment team, including Nurses, BHT, Case Managers, and Clinicians to provide interdisciplinary care.
  • Complete medical records accurate and on time, in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Documents patient’s progress in the clinical record including admission order, H&P, progress notes, and discharge orders. Oversees delivery of medication education and consent, according to established policy.
  • Orders laboratory tests according to standards of clinical practice. Reviews the health assessment completed by nursing staff, obtains a past and current medical history, and conducts a focused physical examination as indicated, according to established guidelines.
  • Assesses patients’ needs and guides the clinical team while managing treatment plan updates, in addition to initiating contact with Outpatient Behavioral Health Provider according to established guidelines. Reviews and utilizes all available documents from applicable referring clinicians, hospitals or crisis clinical teams.
  • Provides necessary information to clinical team regarding inpatient utilization. Leads UR team in ensuring that patients are in care for length of treatment needed.
  • Participates in medical staff meetings including biweekly meetings; participates in all required company meetings; and participates in any meeting as requested by Medical Leadership.
  • Participates in Utilization Review activities including performing peer to peer review sessions with payors.
  • Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement program.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to specialists and community agencies.
  • In addition to the routine duties of detailed in PA scope of practice the in-patient, specialty PA will provide care and management for specified outpatient level of care clients and respond to emergency situations.
  • Responsible for the management of the standards of care, quality, national certifications, and representation to key stakeholders for the programs at the facility.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required

  • 0-3 years’ experience in the delivery of behavioral health, addiction treatment and/or delivery of family health treatment to adults
  • Registered in AZ as Physician Assistant
  • Unrestricted DEA license
  • Valid BLS, CPR, First Aid, and CPI, certifications or ability to obtain immediately upon hire within 60 days
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

Educational Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Master’s degree program.

Additional Notes:

  • Exempt PA to have approximately 10 on call overnight shifts per month
  • PRN PA work as needed and receive call pay for overnight shifts (if worked)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
