Job Overview:This is a PRN position offered through Vincere Physician’s Group typically requiring 2–3 days per week supporting the Phoenix Fire Department Health Center. The medical provider performs baseline and annual physical exams, evaluates, treats, and follows up on industrial injuries and, on occasion, non-industrial medical conditions, infectious and hazardous material exposures. Orthopedic, sports medicine, or emergency department experience is required; a strong base in orthopedic experience is preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the Vincere Physicians Group vision of Health and Wellness.
- Supports the Phoenix Fire Department’s vision of Health and Wellness.
- Ensures that protected health information (PHI) security measures are followed.
- Performs physical exams on firefighters and a selected group of police officers, including interpretation of lab work, body composition analysis, and evaluation of tests such as vision, audiometry, pulmonary function, and stress treadmill testing, in accordance with NFPA 1582 / Medical Requirements for Firefighters.
- Evaluates and treats work-related injuries of firefighters, including suturing, prescribing and monitoring treatment (including physical therapy), and making appropriate referrals to medical/surgical specialists.
- Performs annual physicals for retired firefighters as determined by the Phoenix Fire Department.
- Must be DOT certified and perform Department of Transportation physical exams with appropriate documentation.
- Consults on infectious exposures including HIV, Hepatitis B/C, TB, and others; provides testing, treatment, and follow-up care.
- Provides indirect supervision of clinical staff and treadmill technicians.
- Participates in the development and revision of protocols for medical monitoring, fitness maintenance, and stress management.
- Participates in an on-call health and wellness rotation, which may include hospital visits and after-hours phone availability.
- Participates in and supports research projects in firefighter medicine.
- Supports and engages in wellness programs to reduce injuries and illnesses within the firefighting community.
- Adheres to safety standards, identifies and reports/removes unsafe equipment, and attends safety training.
- Performs other duties as assigned based on clinic needs.
Physical/Mental Demands/Environment:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and stretch frequently.
- Physically agile and able to respond quickly to patient needs.
- Adequate hearing, vision (including color vision), fine motor skills, and coordination required.
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Uses standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
- Must communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.
Equipment Used:
- Patient diagnostic tools, ambulatory care equipment, computer, fax, copier, scanner, telephone, EHR systems, and various software.
Minimum Experience:
- National certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current Arizona license or ability to obtain one.
- Established DEA number.
- BLS and ACLS certified.
- Ability to read exercise treadmill stress tests or willingness to attend training.
- Orthopedic, sports medicine, or emergency department experience is required; a strong base in orthopedic experience is preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in managed care, health education, prevention, and disease management.
- Familiarity with the IAFF/IAFC Wellness Fitness Initiative, NFPA 1582, and OSHA 1910 as they relate to firefighters.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in family practice, emergency medicine, occupational medicine, or sports medicine.

Pay: $75.00 – $85.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
