Are you a highly detail-oriented and experienced Physician Assistant seeking a part-time opportunity within a dynamic neurosurgery practice? Do you possess a strong background in assisting with complex spinal procedures and thrive in a focused surgical setting? We are seeking a skilled and dedicated part-time Physician Assistant to directly assist our leading neurosurgeon during a select number of back surgery cases. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute their expertise while maintaining a flexible work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • First or second assist in a variety of back surgeries on designated surgical days, including discectomies, laminectomies, spinal fusions, and complex spinal reconstructions.
  • Pre-operative patient evaluation on surgical days, including focused history and physical examinations relevant to the scheduled procedure.
  • Post-operative patient rounds and management on surgical days, including assessment, wound checks, and addressing immediate concerns.
  • Intraoperative tasks such as hemostasis, wound closure, and application of dressings.
  • Collaborate effectively with the surgical team during scheduled cases.
  • Participate in patient education related to the surgical procedure on the day of surgery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to surgical and immediate post-operative care.
  • Adhere to all hospital and practice protocols and safety guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current and valid California PA license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant directly assisting in neurosurgical cases, specifically back surgeries. Candidates without this specific experience will not be considered.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of neurosurgical anatomy, surgical techniques, and instrumentation related to spine surgery.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and meticulous approach to surgical procedures.
  • Excellent surgical skills, including tissue handling, suturing, and hemostasis.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a focused surgical environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques.
  • Experience with intraoperative neuromonitoring.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate surgical needs.
