Our Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system, especially in fast-paced environments like emergency departments. Here are some key aspects of their job description:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluating and Treating Patients: Assess and manage patients with emergent medical conditions, illnesses, or injuries.
- Performing Examinations: Conduct comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnostic Procedures: Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood work, X-rays, and EKGs.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Implement therapeutic interventions, including suturing, wound care, and administering immunizations.
- Documentation: Document all patient care services and monitor patient responses to therapy.
- Coordination: Communicate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate optimal patient care.
- Patient Education: Provide education about treatment plans and prognosis 1 2.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate from an accredited physician assistant training program.
- Certification: Certified by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Licensure: Comply with state-specific licensure and regulations.
- Experience: Experience in emergency medicine or completion of an emergency medicine physician assistant residency 2.
Skills
