Our Coastal Orthopedic Group is a leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of orthopedic and sports-related injuries and illnesses. We are seeking an experienced Surgical Physician Assistant who will provide health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of two physicians by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and complies patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Under the direction two physicians who specialize in orthopedic shoulder, sports medicine and general orthopedics, you will conduct pre-op and post-op patient assessments, including treatment plans, follow up care and discharges of patients as well as provide patient education and support.
  • First assist in the Operating Room (OR) on a variety of subspecialty cases including, suture skills equal to that of the surgeon, knowledge of anatomy of all cases, knowledge of latest surgical techniques and ability to contribute intelligent input into the surgical procedures.
  • Work under protocol to develop an effective, safe, and patient-centered treatment plan
  • Provide timely and complete clinical documentation in the EHR following patient visits or telephone calls.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the physician regarding assigned patients and provide timely notification of changes in patient status.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with other members of the care team through written documentation, telephone or in-person conversation.
  • Ensure timely access of patient appointments.
  • This position is about 20% Clinic (2 days/week) and 80% Operating Room (OR) – up to 3 days/week.

***This is a 5/8’s work schedule Monday through Friday

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant studies

License/Certification requirements:

  • National Certification as a Physician Assistant
  • BLS and ACLS Certification required
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification required

Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year Physician Assistant experience in a relevant clinical area preferred, e.g., orthopedics or sports medicine, general surgery, reconstructive surgery, or other surgical specialties.
