Full Job Description
Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations as part of a Physician/Physician Assistant team. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team. Principle Responsibilities
- Provides clinical care for patients
- Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
- Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
- Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
- Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
- Refers for specialty care when determined.
- Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
- Participates in health care team
- Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
- Acts as a resource to members of the team.
- Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients.
- Works with primary care team for program development.
- Participates in research activities when opportunities are available.
- Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree – Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program
Preferred Qualifications
- New Graduates may be considered. Minimum 2 years experience in orthopedics
Licenses/Certifications
- Licensed Physician Assistant – MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
- BLS Tier 1 – Multisource required within 180 Days
- Certification as Physician Assistant – NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) required upon hire
- Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire

Additional Job Description:
Department: Orthopedic Surgery FTE: 1.0 Work Shift: Day Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday – Friday.
4 days clinic/1 day OR per week
This position would be to support the ortho trauma and inpatient rounding at Unity Campus of Mercy Hospital (Level 4 hospital).
Expected call rotation: There is no weekday call requirement and there would likely be no weekend call requirement for the first 6-12 months.
Pay Range: Pay Range: $126,000 to $140,000 per year The pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Benefit Summary:
