Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing direct primary care health to Free Medical Clinic patients in the Daytime Clinic .The physician assistant / Nurse Practitioner will provide care and treatment for patients who need primary care services. As a PA, will diagnoses and treats various medical conditions that impact health. Their duties include diagnosing and monitoring illnesses and diseases, providing medical support to men, women and family and performing routine check-ups

Essential Responsibilities:

Job Description:

  • Providing support and services within professional teams under the direct or indirect supervision of a Physician
  • Developing rapport with patients and families and providing education
  • Documenting patient care and compliance with quality standards
  • Ordering and conducting medical investigations under the supervision of a Physician
  • Assessing the condition and needs of a patient based on interviews, interactions, and observations
  • Performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Ordering and interpreting patient laboratory and radiological results
  • Completing any mandatory training outlined by their employer
  • Supervises students and provides direction, coordination, and consultation.
  • Identify, develop and implement patient education programs.
  • Orient the patients to the Clinic system and available services.
  • Act as an advocate in directing patients to available Clinic and community resources.
  • Order appropriate cost-effective diagnostic tests.
  • Interpret findings to form diagnoses.
  • Negotiate appropriate treatment plans with patients.
  • Prescribe medications as allowed by practice agreement with supervising physician.
  • Educate patients regarding condition, treatment, and possible outcomes.
  • Provide health care services for identified prevention and health promotion needs.
  • Consult with supervising physician as needed.
  • Collaborate with other members of the staff, and with volunteers.
  • Make appropriate referrals.
  • Evaluate and modify treatment as indicated by patient outcomes.
  • Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate medical records using Free Clinic EMR and proper forms in a timely manner. Supervise and train clinical staff and volunteers on data entry into the electronic health records system and provide oversight that original data is entered correctly.
  • Track patient data that will demonstrate measurable success of Clinic services. Generate and analyze reports to document outcome measures from the electronic records. Must be proficient in developing & analyzing outcome measures.
  • Assist Volunteer Coordinator in supervising nurse practitioner student volunteers.
  • Consistently use supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
  • Recommend needed supplies and equipment for delivery of care.

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in quality improvement activities as directed by Medical Director.
  • Provide education to clinical staff as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families in a respectful manner.
  • Maintain an acceptable caseload to meet productivity needs.
  • Utilize updated written protocols as mandated by the SC Board.
  • Ensure that care provided is consistent with community standards of care within the limitations of the program.
  • Follow established safety precautions in performance of duties to ensure a safe environment.
  • Support policies and philosophy in delivering health care as set forth by the Free Medical Clinic Board of Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires successful completion of Master’s level Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner program or PA licensed and prescriptive authority granted by SC board.
  • Certified and Licensed as a provider in the State of SC. Licensed to prescribe medication in the State of SC
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office computer skills and be proficient with EMR software.
  • Minimum of two-year experience in clinical setting.
  • Public health experience or experience working with underserved and/or uninsured population preferred. Spanish proficiency is desirable, not a requirement.
  • 30-day notice of resignation is required.

COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Identify knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment, peer, and supervisor review.
  • Participate in continuing educational activities to maintain certification requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain practice agreement regarding prescriptive authority as mandated in rules and regulations for Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of SC.
  • Review and discuss selected charts quarterly, with supervising physician.
  • Work in a productive and positive manner with staff and volunteers.

Travel Requirements:

ICNA Relief is a national organization with operations across various states, therefore the candidate must be willing and prepared to travel for official work/assignment at a 24-hour notice.

Work Authorization:

The candidate desiring to be hired by ICNA Relief must have a legal status, social security number and work authorization by the relevant US authorities. The candidate by virtue of applying for this position authorizes ICNA Relief for his/her Background Check, reference check and a Medical Exam on need basis.

Mandatory Training
